Leonardo Fibonacci, who was born in the 12th century, devised a number sequence that can be found throughout our universe. From seashells and plants to our planetary system, the same 'Golden Mean' proportions are found. Fibonacci began the sequence with 0,1, ... and then calculated each successive number from the sum of the previous two. i.e. 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21.... This sequence is now called the Fibonacci Number Sequence and is the key to the Golden Mean Proportions used by Artists such as Leonardo Da Vinci,
This is my first design inspired and created using the Fibonacci Number Sequence. Also Known as Sacred Geometry.
The Golden Mean 1 also called the Mother and Child was calculated by dividing a circle into 8 equal parts and then making the first bend at the point where the whole was divided into 3 and 5. The two ends are then domed and cradled to follow the natural curve of the original circle, creating a subtle sense of nurturing.
The Golden Mean Spiral will grow infinitely small
at one end and infinitely large at the other. There are some unusual and interesting properties associated with this form. One is the fact that even though the spiral is wound in one direction only, it appears to turn in 2 opposite directions. This is evident when the vortex sphere is rotated on its center axis. The inner spiral appears to move up while the outer spiral appears to move down or vise versa if the direction of rotation is reversed. Much like The Squaring of the Circle is an attempt to express the infinite (circle / spiritual) in terms of the finite (square / comprehensible finite), the Spherical Vortex is a way to merge this duality.
